    Hi guys,

I was wondering if you guys know what the at in-play ‘Take SP’ option does at betfair when you have a lay bet that isn’t yet matched?

I googled it and it all seems very cryptic.

I also noticed just now that it is available on horses, but not on NRL matches? (at least the Sydney v Cowboys one)

    Thanks for any ideas
    John

It basically means it will try and match your bet at Starting Price (SP), so the price of the selection at the off. A lot of bookies have something similar, where you can just bet on a SP price instead of any exact price.

Thanks Richard. When you say try. I gather you mean it doesn’t always match it?

I was just wondering really if this is a viable avenue to get horse bets on should I not be able to be there 5-10 mintues before the race starts.

That is, because the odds are so sparsly matched hours before the off, if I can guess the odds and try get it close to the bookies odds, but if I guess wrong, I want it to still put the bet in anyway when the race starts?

    What do you think?

    Thanks heaps

You could try if you wanted to, although to be honest I have never done horse bets that way. I tend to stick to the classic back and lay on the spot just to be on the safe side! Just makes me feel more at ease!

I’ll give it a try I suppose. It’s the only way to know 🙂 Probably next weekend tho…

Yeah I agree it’s not a good way, but I guess I hate to see bonuses go to waste 🙂 And if I can’t be there….

My experience so far has been it is always best to lay first on betfair, then back at bookie (betfair moves faster than bookie)….about 5 minutes before the race (seems to be the closest at that time)

Thanks Richard, really appreciate your know how!

Thats ballsy mate! But if it works for you then good! I have always been to scared to lay before backing =)) I know in the UK there are lots of MBers who do that though, so could be good strategy!

    PS
European domestic soccer starting soon should mean more reloads for us, will keep everyone informed!

If you have a strategy which you enjoy and works for you, then stick to it I rate. I think a lot of people have their own small little ways of doing matched betting, which is great!

    Bad 🙂

… and the reason I asked this question really…I f’d up at the start of the week doing something silly…

I had to go out and I couldnt be there for the start of the race….so I figured…yeah, I’ll just guess the odds at betfair, push it back a bit, yeah, she’ll be dandy…it’ll get matched….

Nup 🙂 It didn’t get matched…Did it on a few races and lucky didn’t go my way…..so I might break even this week (minus my labours that is)

    Live and learn

Head up mate! It happens. I once placed a lay bet and added an extra zero to the stake and forgot about it! haha cost me tons of money!
