Matched betting has been a huge part of my life for the past ten years. In fact, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without matched betting.

Where am I? I am currently at my home in the beach town of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. A tropical paradise that is world-renowned for its amazing surf breaks and wild pool parties.

The story of how I got here starts in July 2008, in my hometown in Scotland.

At work one day I stumbled across a sub-forum on moneysavingexpert.com called ‘Gambling Introductory Offer Loopholes’. I was intrigued, so I read through a couple of the stickied threads. They were long and complex and described something that seemed too good to be true. Being a natural cynic I assumed there was a catch, so I closed the page and got on with my day.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it though, and I regularly revisited the forum. I read the guides multiple times and, although I was sure that I must be missing something, I couldn’t find any fault in the logic. So I decided to give it a try.

I initially invested £120. £100 went to Betfair, and the other $20 went to Coral, a UK bookie.

Following the instructions meticulously, I placed my first matched bet and waited nervously for the game to finish. When it did I was £16 richer and, more importantly, I was confident that matched betting really worked.

From that point on I was hooked. I took advantage of every signup or reload offer I could find. Soon my £120 investment had became more than £5000!

With that money in the bank, I started thinking about quitting my job to go travelling. I realised that I could make money matched betting from anywhere in the world, so in March 2010 I flew to Argentina on a one-way ticket.

From there a travelled through South America and up into Central America. In Panama, I lived on the Caribbean island of Bocas del Toro for 18 months, before moving north to Nicaragua.

In 2014 I took a short break from Latin America and lived in Brisbane for a couple of years. This opened my eyes to the wonders of matched betting in Australia, and how it is much more profitable than the UK.

When I came back to Nicaragua in early 2016 I continued to profit from the Australian bookmakers, and realised that there was a gap in the market for an Australian matched betting website. That’s when bonusbank was born.

With the help of my Sydney-based business partner, David, and a team of web developers, we put together the kind of matched betting site that I wish had been available to me in 2008.

Instead of long-complicated threads, we made bite-sized tutorials that walk members through each step of the matched betting process.
